Three lazy ways to get the most from your upper cervical chiropractic care

Less is more is a philosophy that guides the upper cervical chiropractic approach. Knowing when to do something, and when to get out of the body’s way, is an important part of healing through upper cervical care. That’s why your upper cervical chiropractor spends so much time determining when your body requires an adjustment, and when it doesn’t.

It’s the doctor who knows when to do nothing that often helps his or her patients the most. And the same can be said for patients who realize the same…Sometimes being a little bit lazy and giving your body an opportunity to rest and experience your new alignment can do more to help your healing than anything else.

Here are three ways to help healing happen by doing nothing!

1. Relax before your appointment.

There are times when squeezing in a chiropractic visit between a trip to the gym, picking up your kids, and crossing off every item on your to-do list is fine thing to do. The beginning of your care may not be the best time. Especially if you are trying to solve a chronic health problem that no-one else has been able to help you with.

By relaxing before your appointment, it will give you a chance to leave a little bit of stress of the day at the door. Enough to help your doctor examine the function of your nervous system without extra-muscle tension getting in the way. And if it turns out you need an adjustment, there’s a good chance it will go a bit easier if your mind is on your healing, and not on everything else.

2. Rest after an adjustment.

Your upper cervical chiropractor may have a special area for you to rest after an adjustment. Use it as much as you can. And if there’s no place for you to rest, you can always head out to your car, lower your seat and and close your eyes for a few minutes.

By giving your head, neck, and back a rest after your adjustment, you’re giving yourself a break from the mental, physical, and chemical stresses of the environment which cause weaknesses in your spinal balance.

You may find that it helps you to hold your alignment. And holding is healing in our system of care.

3. Sleep more efficiently.

Sleeping when you’re tired is the first step to sleeping more efficiently. It’s also a key ingredient to healing under upper cervical care. Instead of pushing through for another hour in front of your laptop, or staying up late to catch the news, consider doing something so simple for your health as going to bed.

The body does essential activities during sleep, such as produce hormones like melatonin and human growth hormone. These are chemicals from your body’s internal pharmacy which boost the immune system, suppress the growth of tumors, and increase the absorption of nutrients from your food.

By going to bed when you’re tired, especially on a day when you’ve received an adjustment, you can help your body do what it wants to do naturally: heal.
